Aspiration’s Misfortune

He claimed he wanted many things

Night and day he worked and would rarely sleep

For money was his motivation

And rich is what he aspired to be

Forgoing birthday celebrations

And births of cousins and a new niece

Missing all of life’s wonders

For dollars was all he could see

Chasing coins here and there

While life just passed him by

Never celebrated his own successes

Because all he wanted to do was grind

He claimed he wanted many things

Spent years and years trying to become what he aspired to be

But now as he lays on his deathbed

He realizes that he forgot to be happy

“The greatest misfortune in life is that too many people aspire to be rich, than to be happy.” –Monica Renata
